2010 Summer Parent-Child Play Groups
Research has shown that the ability to soothe and nurture oneself in later life depends on early experiences of being soothed and nurtured. A fun, joyful, empathic and attuned responsive attitude of the parent is the core to the development of a strong sense of self, feelings of self worth, and secure attachment.
Group Purpose:
One of the purposes of this group is for strengthening parent-child relationship through simple, fun and enjoyable activities. We also aim to support parents in building effective parenting strategies.
Group Content:
In our parenting discussion group, we will discuss the importance of attachment and show you both verbal & non-verbal techniques in facilitating secure bonding with your toddler. We will also show you how to find a balance in showing empathy and the use of effective Limit Setting. Activities in our Parent-Child play group are attachment based and aimed to help a child to build stronger sense of self. Some of these activities have been used in clinical settings as well. Parents can use these play activities at home as they are simple to do, fun as well as nurturing!
