The solitary and secretive natures of internet pornography consumption do not isolate the impact from others; rather, the impact of viewing the sexually explicit material is often being felt by the entire family system, not to mention other systems (i.e. work) of the user. The marital relationship is the system where the impact should be most prominent because it is the foundational sexual union that can be easily affected by sexual pursuits outside the marital contract.

The Impact of Pornography on Individuals

The power of internet pornography affects people in all gender and age groups. Although research identifies young males as the predominant consumers of pornography, many in the field of sexual addictions argue that online sexual activity has expanded the range of male and female consumers. According to Family Safe Media (2006), the percentage of visitors to adult sexual websites who are women is 1 in 3. The changing demographics of consumption, however, are not yet reflected in the research literature.

Teenager Online Gaming – Playing or Addiction?

Not long ago, an Ontario teenager ran away from home after having a dispute with his parents over the “Xbox” and his online gaming habit. Tragically, after going missing for several weeks he was found dead. One could only imagine how devastating it was for his parents to lose their beloved son. As the police are still trying to piece together the puzzle, perhaps we could take this opportunity to reflect on whether your teenager is struggling with an online gaming habit?
