Melody Kwan, MCP-AT, RCC, Professional Art Therapist

Melody worked as a social worker in Hong Kong for eight years, serving in areas such as child and family services, multicultural communities, substance use rehabilitation, and community development. She later completed a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and Art Therapy at Adler University in Vancouver. Melody specializes in supporting individuals with personal growth, managing emotional challenges, addressing substance addiction issues, improving interpersonal relationships, and providing parenting education and family relationship counselling, including assisting parents in engaging with children who have special educational needs.

Coming from a social work background, Melody firmly believes that societal, cultural, and familial factors significantly shape personal growth and values. She follows the principle "The person is not the problem; the problem is the problem" as the foundation of her counselling approach. Using narrative therapy and Adlerian therapy, she collaborates with clients to explore the connection between their family, social context, and challenges while identifying internal and external resources to empower them to face life’s difficulties. Inspired by her observation of the transformative power of art therapy during her social work practice, Melody pursued a Master’s degree in the field. She enjoys using art as a therapeutic tool to explore and address clients' inner needs through the creative process and observing their interactions with art, ultimately aiding in emotional expression.
